Erie, Pa. - Veronica Sansom and Lisa (Maxson) Beery are two of 11 inductees into the Erie Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. The former Mercyhurst athletes will be inducted June 26 in a banquet at the Avalon Hotel.

Sansom, a 1992 Mercyhurst graduate, was inducted into the Mercyhurst Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998 after a stellar women's soccer career. She made an immediate impact on the second-year program as a freshman in 1988, leading the squad to a 16-2 record and a trip to the NCAA Final Four, scoring 29 goals and accumulating 66 points. During her senior year, Sansom led the nation in scoring, was a Flo Hyman nominee, and was named first team All-America, first team All-Northeast, and an Academic All-American.

Beery was one of Mercyhurst's inaugural Hall of Fame inductees after amassing 2,094 career points in women's basketball. She was the first Mercyhurst women's basketball player named an All-American and led the Lakers to their first ECAC playoff appearance. She ranked in the top 10 in scoring in the country in each of her final two seasons and had her No. 45 jersey retired following her playing career.
