Jan. 16, 2006 Erie, Pa. - Jeff Daisley and Cassie Seth, a pair of senior basketball players, have been named Male and Female Athletes of the Week. Men's hockey, meanwhile, picked up Team of the Week accolades by sweeping two conference games at UConn. Daisley came off the bench to help the Lakers win a pair of close conference games against Northwood, 69-67, and Saginaw Valley State, 67-63, at the Athletic Center. The 7'2" center shot a combined 13 of 20 from the field (65%), grabbed 12 rebounds, blocked two shots and had three steals. His 20 points against the Cardinals on Saturday represented a career high. Seth joined the 1,000-point club last week in a pair of home losses to Northwood and Saginaw Valley State. She scored a dozen against the Timberwolves Thursday and followed that with a 15-point effort against the Cardinals on Saturday. Seth reached the 1,000-point plateau when she converted a free throw with 11:40 left in Saturday's game against SVSU. She finished the contest with 15 and now has 1,008 career points. Seth is the 11th woman's player to hit 1,000 points and the first to achieve the feat in the last five years. Men's hockey solidified its hold on first place in Atlantic Hockey with 6-3 and 4-3(ot) wins at conference-rival Connecticut Friday and Saturday. The Lakers are 13-8-0 overall and 12-4-0 in the conference. |
