Male Athlete of the Week
Terry Smith, Basketball

Senior guard Terry Smith averaged 17.0 points on 51 percent shooting and 55 percent three-point shooting, while making all seven of his free-throw attempts. He also averaged 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.3 steals as the Lakers defeated Ohio Valley and lost to Shepherd and Gannon. Smith scored 21 points and added six steals in the win over Ohio Valley.

Female Athlete of the Week
Amy Achesinski, Basketball

Freshman forward Amy Achesinski averaged 16.3 points while shooting 77 percent from the field as the Lakers went 3-1 in four games. Against rival Gannon, Achesinski had 25 points and eight rebounds while making 10-of-11 shots. She has scored in double-figures in every game this season and ranks in the top four in the conference in scoring, rebounding and field-goal percentage. Mercyhurst won three straight games before the loss to Gannon, defeating West Virginia Wesleyan, New York Institute of Technology, and Lock Haven.

Team of the Week
Women's Basketball

The Mercyhurst women's basketball team went 3-1 over Christmas Break, defeating West Virginia Wesleyan, New York Institute of Technology, and Lock Haven, before losing to rival Gannon. In a 76-72 win over West Virginia Wesleyan, sophomore guard Paris Pugliese scored a career-high 21 points as the Lakers held off a late charge. In Mercyhurst's 77-57 win over NYIT, the Lakers knocked down a season-high 12 three-pointers and Stevie Spetoskey had 15 points, six rebounds and five assists. The Lakers followed that up by defeating Lock Haven 89-78 as four players scored at least 16 points. In Mercyhurst's 85-68 loss to Gannon, Amy Achesinski had 25 points and eight rebounds on 10-of-11 shooting.
