Answer: A student athlete must meet all standards set by the NCAA, their conference, their institution, and their state or federal government.
- Question 2. What is the individual limit for what a student-athlete can receive in financial aid?
Answer: The student-athlete cannot receive more than the institution's cost of attendance OR the requirements set by the division.
- Question 3. In order to participate in multiple sports, what guidelines must a student-athlete follow?
Answer: A. The individual must report and participate fully in regularly held practices with each squad.
B. The individual must participate where qualified in actual competition for each sport.
C. The individual must be a member of each squad for the entire playing and practice season.
- Question 4. What is the guiding principle behind how playing and practice seasons are developed?
Answer: According to the NCAA, the time required of student-athletes for participation in intercollegiate athletics shall be regulated to minimize interference with their opportunities for acquiring a quality education in a manner consistent with that afforded to the general student body. - Question 6. What is the first step for foreign student-athletes who are trying to gain eligibility?
Answer: Foreign student-athletes must register with the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse. They may register online by completing the Foreign Student Release Form at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net.
Female Student-Athlete Specific Questions:
- Question 1. When was the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women formed?
Answer: 1971. It was formed to plan, govern, and promote the growing number of college tournaments for women athletes.
- Question 2. What are the eligibility requirements for the WNBA?
Answer: Potential prospects must meet atleast one of the following requirements:
A. The prospect must be atleast 22-years-old during the calendar year of the applicable season
B. The prospect must have completed her intercollegiate basketball eligibility
C. The prospect must have graduated from a four-year college or university
D. The prospect must have played atleast two seasons for another professional basketball league.
Male Student-Athlete Specific Questions:
- Question 1. Has the NCAA introduced any legislation to protect a student-athlete's eligibility for college football when they are in the process of entering the NFL?
Answer: Yes. The NCAA recently introduced Bylaw 12.2.4.2, entitled "Amateurism - Personal Draft - Football". The purpose of this Bylaw is to permit a student-athlete to entire the NFL draft without jeopardizing eligibility in the sport, PROVIDED he declares his intention to resume intercollegiate football participation within 72 hours following the draft declaration date and he is not .subsequently drafted.
- Question 2. Who has to participate in the Five Day Acclimatization Period for Preseason football, and what are the guidelines?
Answer: The Five Day Acclimatization Period must be participated in by first-time participants, continuing student-athletes, and all student-athletes, including walk-ons, who arrive to preseason practice after the first day of practice.
The guidelines state that not conditioning, speed, strength, or agility tests may be conducted prior to the start of the five-day acclimatization period. Also, there may not be more than one on-field practice per day during the five-day period. The on-field practices should not last longer than three hours individually.
